Gastrocnemius Origin

The gastrocnemius muscle originates from two distinct heads. The medial head starts from the posterior aspect of the medial femoral condyle. The lateral head begins at the lateral femoral condyle.
Insertion

Gastrocnemius Insertion

Both heads combine to form a large belly that tapers into a thick tendon. This tendon is attached to the posterior surface of the calcaneus bone (heel bone). It connects via the Achilles tendon. This is a powerful and essential structure for foot movement and stability.
