Soleus Origin

The soleus muscle is a flat, broad muscle that forms the deep layer of the posterior calf. It originates on the posterior surfaces of the tibia and fibula. Specifically, it is along the proximal two-thirds of the fibula and the posterior border of the tibia.

Soleus Insertion

The muscle fibers of the soleus run inferiorly and medially. They converge towards a strong tendon that inserts into the calcaneus or heel bone. The soleus tendon joins with the Achilles tendon. The Achilles tendon is formed by the gastrocnemius muscles. Together, they attach to the posterior surface of the calcaneus.
