There are actually 2 maxillae, right and left, fused at the mid-sagittal line.  These are your upper jaw bones.

  • Infraorbital foramen

Maxilla, also known as the upper jaw are paired bones. The maxilla contains the opening for the nasal cavity. It articulates with both the frontal and nasal bones at its superior edge. Just inferior to each eye is the infraorbital foramen. Viewable from an inferior view is the palatine process, which is basically the roof of the mouth.
