Origin

The ECR brevis starts at the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. This is a bony prominence on the lateral side of the lower end of the humerus.

The ECR longus muscle originates from the lateral supracondylar ridge of the humerus. This ridge is a bony feature on the lateral side of the distal humerus.

Insertion

The ECR longus inserts onto the base of the second metacarpal bone. It is one of the long bones in the hand. The insertion occurs specifically at the dorsal aspect of the base.
