The extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) muscle is a crucial component of the forearm. It controls the movement of the wrist and hand.

Origin

The extensor carpi ulnaris originates from two main sites. One is the lateral epicondyle of the humerus, which is a bony prominence on the outer side of the elbow. The other is the posterior border of the ulna, one of the forearm bones.

Insertion

The muscle inserts into the base of the fifth metacarpal bone. This is a bone in the hand connected to the little finger. It also has an attachment to the pisiform bone, a small bone in the wrist.
