Human Histology

Epithelial Tissues

Epithelial tissues line open spaces such as blood vessels and the bladder.

Connective tissues can be fluid, like blood, supportive, like bone, or a storehouse of energy, like adipose.

Muscular tissue comes in three flavors: cardiac, smooth, and skeletal.

Nervous tissue and organs of the nervous system are specialized to conduct electricity.

Estrogen and testosterone are just the beginning.

Not JUST for vampires

Histological slide of adrenal gland tissue stained with H&E. Prominent arteriole with dark purple nuclei lining the vessel wall, surrounded by concentric layers of pink-stained smooth muscle. Several capillaries are visible amidst a background of adipocytes and collagenous tissue. Overall color palette is dominated by pinks and purples indicative of the H&E staining procedure.

If blood is not in your blood vessels, you should contact a doctor. Immediately.

Microscopic image of muscular tissue showing striations and connective fibers.

More than just cardiac tissue, the heart has its own skeleton, valves, Purkinjie fibers and all kinds of stuff with strange names.

Designed to give you wonderful things such as sinus infections, bronchitis, and pneumonia.

Friend or foe?

Many people believe the brain is the controlling organ of the body, but the kidney has more authority.

Microscopic image of seminiferous tubules stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E). Circular tubule cross-sections dominate the frame. Dark purple nuclei of spermatogenic cells are densely arranged around the lighter pink to white lumina. Reddish-pink connective tissue separates the tubules. The composition allows clear visualization of cellular arrangement and structural components.

The reproductive systems are both designed to do the same thing: make and deliver gametes.
