A microscopic view of a blood smear. Numerous pinkish-red blood cells fill the frame. A single, larger monocyte with a distinctive, indented, kidney-shaped, dark purple nucleus is visible among the red blood cells. The monocyte has a pale blue cytoplasm and a slightly irregular outline.
