The semitendinosus muscle, often confused with the semimembranosus muscle, acts in knee flexion and hip extension.

Origin

The semitendinosus muscle originates from the ischial tuberosity, a bony prominence in the pelvis. This point of origin is critical to the muscle’s functionality.

Insertion

The muscle inserts onto the proximal part of the tibia. It specifically attaches to the upper part of the medial surface of the tibia.
