Subscapularis

The subscapularis muscle connects to the anterior face of the scapula and participates in various should movements.

Origin

The subscapularis muscle originates from the subscapular fossa, a concave depression on the anterior surface of the scapula (shoulder blade). It covers a significant portion of the scapula’s anterior surface.

Insertion

The muscle fibers of the subscapularis converge to form a tendon. This tendon inserts onto the lesser tubercle of the humerus. The lesser tubercle is a bony prominence on the front of the upper arm bone (humerus).

Actions

Medial Rotation of the Shoulder

Stabilization of the Shoulder Joint

Contribution to Arm Abduction
