The subscapularisMedial rotator Front of shoulder blade; rotates arm inward. muscle connects to the anteriorThe front of the body or toward the front when standing in the anatomical position. face of the scapulaTriangular “shoulder blade” on posterior thorax; connects clavicle and humerus. and participates in various should movements.
Origin
The subscapularis muscle originates from the subscapular fossaBroad, slightly concave surface on the anterior scapula that faces the ribcage., a concave depression on the anterior surface of the scapula (shoulder blade). It covers a significant portion of the scapula’s anterior surface.
Insertion
The muscle fibers of the subscapularis converge to form a tendon. This tendon inserts onto the lesser tubercleSmaller bump anterior to head; also for muscle attachment. of the humerusLong bone of the upper arm; articulates with scapula at shoulder and radius/ulna at elbow.. The lesser tubercle is a bony prominence on the front of the upper arm bone (humerus).
Actions
Medial Rotation of the Shoulder
Stabilization of the Shoulder Joint
Contribution to Arm Abduction
