Put it on.

Graphing

In 2022, I had a student hand in a graph that was exactly the same as another student. I sent an email to both, asking how this might have happened. One student flat out said, “I used Chat GPT.” The other student said, “I used Python.” I asked both students if they were 100% sure those were they graphs they wanted to submit. Both said yes. Neither graph was correct…there are decisions that only humans can make.

Note-Taking Skills

With the advent of digital note-taking, there doesn’t seem to be a limit to the use of technology such as Notion, Kiwi, and the myriad of note-taking apps out there. The game has upped. Up your game.

The 5-Paragraph Essay

Love it. Hate it. But, don’t fear it (fear the reaper, of course). The success of the essay depends heavily on all the work you do before you sit down to write the essay. You might be doing things backwards.

Answering Test Questions

Have you ever felt as though your tests were written in an alien language? You are not alone. Everyone in higher education, students and teachers alike, assume that they know how to take a test. Revisiting strategies on how to tackle different types of question always reveals a test-taking strategy you didn’t know.

Transition to Digital Note-taking

Why not? Interactive whiteboarding sites such as Miro allow you to draw, insert text, and use diagrams. If you plan on being an online student, one of the best things you can invest in is a pen for your computer.

Taking Screenshots

Different on every device but essential all the same. In my days of teaching in-person, I would hand my phone to a younger student and say, “Show me how to take a screenshot.” Now, I go to Google and say, “Show me how to take a screenshot.”

Finding Screenshots

Probably more important than taking them is finding them.
