17.8 Conclusion and Assessment

MODULE 17 · CONCLUSION & ASSESSMENT

A normal appendix, and forty years of the same attack

You now hold the digestive tract — four layers, absorption, the accessory organs and the peritoneum. Here we read a lifetime of abdominal attacks and a newer, quieter pattern as one disease.

The appendix came out because the pain was in the right place, and pathology found nothing wrong with it. That result is not a near miss — it is the finding. Peritonitis in the right lower quadrant mimics appendicitis almost perfectly.

Decades later a second, quieter story appears: loose stools and drifting labs, with amyloid in the intestinal wall. The same acute-phase protein driving her blood results has been depositing here the whole time.

APPENDICITIS

One obstructed organ

Progresses over hours, does not resolve on its own, and is cured by removing the organ.

RECURRENT PERITONITIS

An inflamed membrane, whole-abdomen

Self-limited, recurrent, involves the peritoneum rather than one organ, and no surgery ends it.

CLUE #17

One diagnosis uniting a lifetime of belly pain. This entry joins the diagnostic timeline the whole course is assembling.

Module 18 — The Respiratory System. Most chest pain is indifferent to breathing. Hers stabs with every inhalation, on one side, and then goes away. This module builds the respiratory system and completes the serositis triad the case has been assembling since Module 1. Begin Module 18 →
