ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY I · MODULE 10
A few white spots, and a decade of brain fog
A radiologist noted a few nonspecific white spots and suggested small-vessel changes or migraine. Nobody asked what was driving them. This module builds the brain and its barrier, then puts the spots beside the rest of the chart.
The findings this module reads together
For years Stina blamed her slipping memoryThe ability to store and recall information. and the dull pressing headache on stress and poor sleep. An MRI found age-excessive white-matter hyperintensities, described as nonspecific and left there.
Her IL-1β and IL-6 have been elevated for years, not days. A barrier built to keep the brain apart is not indifferent to that. Read chronic cytokine exposure, barrier permeability, and myelin injury as one sequence and the spots stop being nonspecific — they become the brain taking its turn as a target organ.
PATIENT CHART · STINA · CHART CLUE #10
- Years — Memory slipping, ‘brain fog’
- Ongoing — Heavy, pressing headache
- MRI — Age-excessive white-matter spots
- Labs — Chronically elevated IL-1β / IL-6
Seven parts, one chart
Each part opens with a finding from Stina’s chart and asks you to commit to a prediction before any video plays, then alternates short videos with H5P activities. Work them in order.

What you’ll be able to do
By the end of Module 10 you will be able to:
1
Identify the major regions of the brain and their principal functions.
2
Describe the meninges(singular: meninx) – Protective membranes surrounding the spinal cord and brain., ventricular system, and the production and flow of CSF.
3
Explain the structure of the blood-brain barrier and what it normally excludes.
4
Describe how inflammatory cytokines alter barrier permeability.
5
Relate white-matter hyperintensities to myelin injury and chronic inflammation.
6
Explain the hypothalamic fever set-point and how IL-1β resets it.
