2.8 Conclusion and Assessment

MODULE 2 · CONCLUSION & ASSESSMENT

Reading the numbers as evidence

You now hold the chemistry the chart was written in — atoms and bonds, acids and buffers, the energy a fever costs, and how a protein folds. Here we read her bloodwork back with that vocabulary and log the second clue.

Every raised marker on Stina’s chart was a real measurement of a real process. What was wrong was the assumption that inflammation only happens during an event you can see. Acute-phase proteins rise because the liver is being told to make them, and hers was being told continuously.

That is why the between-attack numbers matter more than the during-attack ones. A marker that comes down between episodes describes something that starts and stops. A marker that never comes down describes something that never stops.

LAB ERROR

Noise you can discard

A value that does not reproduce, does not fit the clinical picture, and disappears on a repeat draw.

ACUTE-PHASE SIGNAL

A process you must explain

A reproducible rise driven by cytokines acting on the liver. It persists because the driver persists.

CLUE #2

Protein structure, and what amyloid really is. This entry joins the diagnostic timeline the whole course is assembling.

Module 3 — The Cell & Its Transport. A stack of visits ending in the same sentence: no source of infection identified. This module builds the cell and its transport systems, then walks into the one cell where Stina’s disease actually lives. Begin Module 3 →
